Changes in physical/mental states and our soul

It is not strange topic to think that our soul is intertwined with our mental state. Also that our body is a helper for our mind. It can be strange, though, to think that we can change our physical and mental states. Can this correlate to changing our soul?
Our physical state is our shape, height, weight, and much more. I can point out, as well, that both our mental and physical state hold properties we can not change, and vise versa. For our physical state, we can not control our height, eye color, smile, and physical appearance. We can change, though, our weight, hair color, and how we present ourselves to the world. With our mental state, we can not change what we find humorous, our personalities, and our genuine true self. We can change though the way we deal with emotions, handle situations, and our maturity.
My question is, can these changes change our soul? My personal answer is no. Our soul is engraved in our body and is true to our own selves. Our soul is who we are as a person and makes us unique compared to everyone else. I believe that our soul changes with us while we grow. Having the same soul from when we are five years old would make us act and think like a five year old. Comparatively speaking, the term “old soul” can relate to our soul changing as we age. Our physical state changes as we grow and so does our mental state along with our soul.

  1. I agree that these changes do not serve a purpose in changing our soul, in fact, I'm not sure a soul can be changed! These are very interesting notions that you bring up! I like your last sentence a lot and I think it makes a lot of sense. I agree that our physical state changes as we grow, as well as our mental state along with our soul. I wonder how consciousness relates to the soul, where those things intertwine! Good stuff.

  2. I believe that mental and physical changes don't serve a purpose in changing our soul either. But could our soul change? Since you said it is engraved in our body and true to oneself, could it change? Yes we can change as a person, but if we only get one soul, along with one body, how much of ourselves can we really change? I don't think our soul changes as we age, just maybe our physical and mental states.

  3. Since everyone in this thread as of ~11am 4/17/19 seems to agree that souls cannot change, when you say 'mental state,' does this encompass personality? Personality technically is a function of one's mental state, but it seems to be a concept worthy of its own discussion nonetheless. By stating that one's 'mental state' could change, one could mean the person goes from confused to certain or happy to sad. To state that someone's personality might change, on the other hand, means something very different, and almost certainly implies a greater change. In fact, some may doubt that personality truly CAN change. If they can, however, and if in reflection upon one's personality change one recognizes the causes for the change to be in socialization or other interaction with the physical world, how does this reflect on the concept of a soul? Or does socialization account for the interaction of souls, and a physical change like brain damage account for the death of one soul and the entrance of another?
