The controversy of Immortality
Many people seem to have some type of opinion toward immortality. The controversial topic of whether immortality is a pro or is a con. Although we are not close to being able to be immortal there still the conversation of it.
With the supporting side of immortality stating an example as to why it could be a benefit to life is that you could experience everything your heart desires. That not having enough time in your life is not a constant struggle. With that not every decision you make will affect the path that your life is on because you have the time to change. The endless fear of when you will die or how you will die is lifted off your shoulders. That although the question of when you will die is not always an everyday thought it will still be exempted from the back of your head. Equally important, is that you would be able to see the world change and the society of the people shift. Be that as it may, the pros to immrtality has objections that can switch peoples opinions.
The cons of immortality show life through a perspective that life is fragile. That when we are aware that death is inevitable we live for things. As life goes on we create a timeline in our heads of what needs to get done before our time comes to an end. With this our life shows that we live for objectives throughout our life time. As of now we live for a purpose, a purpose that everyday we carry out to fulfill. With being immortal we have nothing to live for, our everyday choices can always be modified since we have forever to modify them.

Personally, I think Immortality would not be all that great. Sure, it would be pretty cool for a while, but eventually you would run out of things to do and talk about. Also, if you were immortal, you would have to witness all of your friends and family die before you. Life would eventually become meaningless.
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI remember when we had the class discussion about how the con of immortality would be that we lose our purpose to live since there would be no end to life; however, I now disagree with the fact that life would lose complete meaning to us if we were immortal. Sure, an immortal life might not be quite as special to us as a mortal one, but it is the absence of death. Isn't being immortal better than just dying and never existing anymore? Even if an immortal life isn't fun, it is still life. I am sure that it would be much better than dying.
