Is Immortality a good or bad thing?
Immortality could be looked at as being good, but also as being bad.
"Why do we want immortality?"
"Are there any benefits?"
"Why isn't immortality a good thing?"
"Shouldn't we all want to live forever?"
There are reasons both for and against immortality. Some reasons for immorality, is we get to do everything we've always wanted to do. To some people, immortality could be the best thing that has ever happened to them. Learning is the greatest thing we can do for ourselves. The more we know, the more involved we are in society. We could have a better life going out, exploring, and learning everything the world has to offer. Living forever means there is no fear of death. Death happens to be something that deeply saddens a lot of people, but it's just something that happens.
Immortality can be looked at as being boring and pointless. Why would someone want to live forever when there's only so much happiness and motivation we can give to this world? The whole point of God putting us on this Earth, is simply life the live he granted us with. We only have so much time on this earth to experience and live out our passions. We should all learn to live everyday like it's our last because we never know when either us or someone we love dearly will be gone. Never get in the habit of pushing things off because in all actuality, we don't have forever to do the things we want to do.
I believe that immortality is a bad thing because we only have so much time on this earth, and I believe that's all we need. If we don't go out and try to accomplish our hopes and dreams now, we won't have that motivation to strive for it in the future, so it's now or never. Don't let things slip away because once they're gone, they could be gone forever and there's no turning back. Just because we don't live forever, that's no reason to think that we aren't good enough or there's not enough time to try and do the things we've always wanted to do. We need to go out and live our lives as one should with the limited time God has granted us.

I agree with your argument that immortality is not what it is up to be. In the topic of God, there is a reason humans are mortal. There is a reason our lifespan is the length that it is. Personally, I look at being mortal as a gift to say that we only have one life and one chance to do it. If our lives continue forever then what is the point of living to the fullest when there is no end destination?
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job supporting your argument against immortality. I agree with this because there is nothing good out of immortality, hence the reason we can live for so long. Being immortal gives us opportunity to keep creating senseless problems that we will never be able to solve. If there were anything good coming from immortality, God would eradicate all diseases and epidemics and create flawless human beings who could live forever, but that's not the case
